Sloppy Trail Run Today

Ran on a sloppy trail this afternoon, had fun but got soaked. Rained the whole time, haven't run on the trail in the rain for a long time.

Getting Close

Well today is the 7th of Oct, so I only have a couple of weeks before the Athens (GA) Half Marathon.

One thing I can say for sure is that I haven't overtrained. Averaging less than 15 miles a week, I would say I am a minimalist at training.

I will admit I have been good at getting my long runs in, but I have only done about 3 runs a week this whole training cycle.

I do feel that I will be ready to complete the race ok, the real question is - how fast? - that is what I am wondering. I guess I will get the answer on Oct 20th.

Peachtree Road Race

Not a fast run, but a good run. I moved back two time groups and ran with Laura at the start. Did a r:30/w:30 for the first mile, then switched to r1:30/w:30 for the rest of the race. Felt good the whole time. A little rain before the race, but no rain for the whole race. Good day to be running. Aerobic Points=27.0

Today's Run on Camp Creek Greenway & Spur Trails

Good r/w at Lilburn Park on the trail this evening. Ran with Rob and Laura. Should have done some recording for a podcast, but didn’t. Temp was about 70 degrees and overcast.

Update for Today

After my good run last Sunday I thought I had this cold beat, but Monday I felt really bad. Tuesday I went to the Doctor and he prescribed antibiotics for 5 days and said that I could run if I felt like it because my lungs were clear. I didn't feel like running again until today. I did a slow r:30/w:30 for 1/2 hour and felt pretty good, of course I still have a cough that I am having trouble getting rid of. Once the cough is gone I think I will be back to normal. 2nd run in my Hoka Bondi B's, even better than the 1st time.

New Idea, New Shoes

OK, I know I am getting old, but I still want to run longer distances. So, in order to run longer and not suffer with sore legs and sore feet I need to change something. I went through the minimalist phase where I tried to do more natural, less cushioning and less heel to forefoot drop and I managed to injure myself. Therefore I have decided to try out the Hoka One One shoes. They have what is called oversized technology, which is basically 2.5X as much cushioning and wider sole, but lighter than other shoes their size.

I ordered a pair of Bondi B Hoka One One shoes from ZBSports in Hendersonville, NC and got a good deal on them. That is the biggest drawback with these shoes, they are what I call expensive. I should be receiving them on Friday of this week and will get to test drive them over the weekend.

The word Hoka One One is derived from the ancient Maori language and roughly translates to “now it is time to fly”.  We will see about the flying, if I can just run and not get injured I will be happy.

This is a link to an article about Hoka on slowtwitch.com

I will continue to wear my Brooks shoes for my shorter runs, but I think the Hoka's will be my long distance shoes.

I will let you know how it goes with the new idea, new shoes.

Waiting

I had a good Magic Mile run last Tuesday, and I haven't run since. Wednesday I started getting congested and it went straight to my chest. I remember being told that if you have a head cold go ahead and run, but if it goes to your chest wait until you are recovered before you start running again. So, I am waiting to recover. Waiting, waiting & waiting.  Maybe next week.

LostTrailRunner Episode 86? coming soon.

I am working on a new episode of the LostTrailRunner Podcast. It will be numbered episode 86. When I moved my podcast feed from MobileMe to Podbean I had started over with the numbering at 1. My latest episode would have been episode 18, but it is really the 86th podcast episode that I will have done in the LostTrailRunner series. Does that make any sense? Anyway I should have it completed sometime tomorrow and posted tomorrow night.
